Meet Dr. Schmidt

Eric R. Schmidt, DMD

Dr. Eric SchmidtSo, when people ask me where I’m from, I always hesitate…because I’ve lived all over the US and several parts of the world.  Even before joining the military, my parents moved around a lot.  All told, I figure I’ve lived in 9 US states, 14 US cities, and 2 foreign countries.  I was born in Kansas City, MO, but moved to Seattle, WA when I was about 8.  After a couple of years there, we then moved to Alaska, where I spent 5 years living in 3 different cities.  At 15 years old, we moved down to Paducah, KY where I graduated from St. Mary High School.

In my senior year, I applied for and was accepted to a special 6-year BS/DMD program at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.  At dental school I met my future wife, Mary Anne Hood, who was from Greenville, KY.  In 1996, not only were we married, but that was also the beginning of our future military career, as I joined the US Navy Dental Corps, where I proudly served as a general dentist at Branch Dental Clinic, Keflavik, Iceland.

I separated from the Navy after my 3 years of obligated service but soon realized that I wanted to specialize, and so, when the US Air Force approached me about returning to active duty, we decided to go for it.  During my next 18 years of military service, I was able to complete one of the finest Oral & Maxillofacial
Surgery residencies in the country, as well as serve in such exotic locations as Georgia, California, Nebraska,
and the United Kingdom.
